Media Studies / Semiotics

Reflecting the quiding influence of "Gengotai", Media Studies/Semiotics in our program are oriented toward the humanities rather than social science or natural science. Putting emphasis not on statistic phenomena or scientific thinking - though we do not hesitate to use other dsciplines when necessary - Media Studies/Semiotics in "Genngotai" tries to focus more on the style of language, the literary effect or meaning, the relation between language and visual communication, the cultural history of (print or other) media, discourse analysis, stylistics, the stuudy of literary texts in the computer network age and more. It aims to benefit from a wide range of approaches, drawing without prejudice on traditional philosophical thinking or literary theory to any form of language with or without its non-verbal human context.
