専門分野
理論言語学（音韻論・形態論）を専門とする。言語学にとって科学的な方法論がどこまで可能であるのかを探るため、生物進化・類型論・歴史変化・社会変異・獲得過程などに目配りしながら、認知的・生物的基盤を備えた統合モデル（形式理論的パラダイム）を整備するのが究極の目標である。今のところ、特に次の5つの研究課題に取り組んでいる。1) 音韻論の方法論に関する形式理論研究、2) 言語の生物学的基盤やそのモデル化に関する研究、3) 最適性理論に基づく日英語の音韻体系の比較研究、4) アクセントの生成モデルとその検証のための類型・通時変化・共時変異・獲得過程・分節音との相互作用に関する研究、5) 言語の異化作用に関する類型論的研究。
