Research Interests

19th- and 20th-century French literature; psychoanalytic criticism; study of the "gento-tai" approach. While focusing on the issue of interpreting Valery's texts from a modern perspective, I have also dealt with the issues of linguistic theories and psychoanalysis, central to 20th-century discourse. Recently, I have become interested in Romanticism and Nationalism, leading to new interest in the general political meaning that aesthetic discourse holds. At present, I am developing a project focusing on the role that literature and art play in creating and maintaining human communities.
