My main area of research is postwar Japanese literature. I have been working on describing the unique ethics expressed in postwar Japanese literary works, especially written by Takeda Taijun (1912-1976), Oe Kenzaburo (1935- ) and Kojima Nobuo (1915-2006), which challenge postwar discourses on humanity (subjectivity). I recently extended my interests to (1) animal representations in the postwar literature of Japanese women writers, (2) the transformation of the nature-human relationship in post-3/11 literature, and (3) the literature and thought in Okinawa.
